Third generation YP (2014-2024) / Kia Sedona YP Service Manual / Body Electrical System / Power Sliding Door System / Description and Operation

Description
Power Sliding Door is a system which can open/close the door automatically by using a switch located on overhead console and rear seat trim, internal/outer handle of a sliding door or a remote control. When Power Sliding Door detects jamming of an object, it will stop or reverse the door. It also has self-diagnosis and fail safe function and can be operated manually when its automatic operation fails.
Components
1.
Drive Unit
Drive unit (A) consists of motor, clutch, cable and hall sensor and is installed on the rear quarter panel between pillars C and D. It operates the cable that is attached to the sliding door center roller arm with motor power and enables opening and closing of sliding door.

2.
Power Sliding Door control module
Power Sliding Door control module (B) is installed on left wheel housing. It detects the resistance of anti-pinch sensor, adjusts the direction of the power sliding door, and controls the system''s entire hardware and software.

3.
Anti-pinch strip(C )
Installed on the power sliding door, this safety device detects the jamming of a small object. When an object is jammed, air gap inside the strip wire shrinks and detects the jamming. The signal will be sent to the power sliding door control module through the conductive outer rubber wrapping of wire.

4.
Overhead console and Remote Control switch(A)
It connects or disconnects the main power supply and enables the opening and closing of the Power Sliding Door.

5.
Door Latch(B)
It maintains the door lock, detects the status with detent and primary switch, and sends to Power Sliding Door module.

6.
Hold Open Latch
Installed on the roller of the bottom of the door, it maintains the total opening of sliding door. In case of driving on a ramp, it keeps the door open.
7.
Wireless Transmitter (A)
Door will be open and closed by pushing left/right button (B) on the Power Sliding Door of wireless transmitter for longer than 1.0 second. The door will be fully opened when the button is pushed again while closing.

8.
Inside/outside door handle switch
Using this switch, the Power Sliding Door can be manually and automatically opened and closed from inside and outside.
Outside Door Handle Switch (A)

Outside Door Handle Switch (B)

Operating Principle
Power Sliding Door OPEN/CLOSE
1.
When the Power Sliding Door control switch is on, a door can be opened and closed by using the main switch(A) of the overhead console or substitute switch (B) of the rear seat in center pillar lower trim.

2.
Buzzer will sound in the following cases:
–
When switch is operated under the off condition of Power Sliding Door device: Buzzer will sound once.
–
When an object is jammed: Buzzer will sound three times.
–
When door is not fully meshed (the first stage) within two seconds after it is closed: Buzzer will sound four times.
–
When door is not fully meshed (the first stage) within 20 seconds after it started to close: Buzzer will sound four times.
Operating Conditions of Power Sliding Door
1.
Power Sliding Door will not operate when the gear shift is not located in P, or vehicle''s speed is faster than 5km/h.
2.
When the door is locked, it will only open by Overhead console switch or remote control.
3.
When the door detects an object that can be perceived as an obstacle, the door will reverse and open, or halt.
4.
When fuel cap is opened, the door on the side will not open.
5.
When Power Sliding Door detects signals repeated for several times in one signal, power device may not operate. In this case, the door has to be opened and closed manually.
6.
Child-safety lock must be in ''Unlock'' mode for power opening the door from the inside in two row seat.

–
When the fuel cap is open, do not try to open the sliding door of the driver''s side by force as this may damage the fuel cap.
–
Do not close the sliding door by braking abruptly as this may damage the parts.

–
Do not leave the door half-closed to prevent the battery discharge.
–
When the vehicle is parked on a ramp, be careful as the closing speed of the sliding door can be faster than on a flat road.

–
The battery (-) negative terminal must be disconnected before inspection or maintenance of the power sliding door system.
–
Do not get onboard or off the vehicle during the Power Sliding Door operation as this can result in personal injury or damaged parts. Please check for any obstacles before operation.
–
When excessive force is applied during its operation, the system can be affected.
Child-safety Lock Switch
Sliding door cannot be opened from inside when the switch (A) located on the front edge of the sliding door is ''ON''. (Recommended when a child is onboard.)

–
When setting the child-safety lock, make sure that the power supply is ''OFF''.
–
When child-safety lock is ''ON'', the Power Sliding Door switch of center pillar trim will not operate.

Be cautious that no one is locked inside a vehicle with child-safety lock switched ''ON'' in case of collision.
Details of Functioning of Power Sliding Door Device
When all doors are locked by central door lock system, door cannot be opened with PSD main switch. (open when KEY is IN)

1) When outside handle and inside handle are operated in opening direction, door is opened. When inside handle is operated in closing direction, it is operated manually.
2) When outside handle and inside handle are operated in closing direction, door is closed. When inside handle is operated in opening direction, it is opened.
3) When outside handle and inside handle are operated in opening direction, door is opened. When inside handle is operated in closing direction, it will maintain the current status.
4) When outside handle and inside handle are operated in closing direction, door is closed. When inside handle is operated in opening direction, it will maintain the current status.

1.
Vehicle condition

–
When the vehicle is in stationary while ignition switch is ''OFF'' or in ACC, or is moving under 5Km/h.
–
When the vehicle is in stationary while ignition switch is ''ON'' or in ACC, or is moving under 5Km/h. (When manual gear shift is ''N'', automatic gear shift is ''P''.
Driving status
–
When the vehicle is moving faster than 5Km/h while ignition switch is ''OFF'' or in ACC.
–
When the vehicle is moving faster than 5Km/h while ignition switch is ''ON''. (When manual gear shift is not ''N'', automatic gear shift is not ''P''.
2.
Door Position
Position number 1:(fully closed to opened 10mm): stage 1 or 2 meshed.
Position number 2:(opened 10mm to 300mm): in transit on curved.
Position number 3:(300mm to 770mm): in transit on straight road.
Position number 4:(770mm to fully opened): opened in captive status.
3.
Door unlocking when PSD sub switch is in operation means that both door lock and child-safety lock are cleared.
